And where the USB cord is plugged in might also be removable to expose the "L" bracket connectors. I couldn't tell from the image you posted, but I think there is a plastic piece where the blue light is that looks like it could be removed.
Those two connectors will connect to the dock. It's a bit hard to see from the picture, but basically you want to expose two "L" shaped brackets like this (The picture is from a 3.5" drive I have lying around, yours seems to be a 2.5" so it may be different): It seems the issue is from the frequent disconnecting without ejecting but I'm not sure what else to try. I know data recovery would seem to be my next step but I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone had any other suggestions/recommendations. I was working my way towards that over the next few days.
